Fill out the form to send a letter to the University of California - Santa Cruz Leadership to urge them to support Jewish students on campus
See letter below
Dear Campus Leader of The University of California - Santa Cruz,
I write as an alumnus of Alpha Epsilon Pi - the International Jewish Fraternity – at the University of California - Santa Cruz. I am deeply concerned about anonymous messages that have begun to spread about the chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi
This week, concerning messages (shown below) were posted about AEPi on the anonymous college message board Yik Yak. The nature of these messages about the AEPi chapter were laced with antisemitism that has no place at UCSC. To blame a Jewish collegiate organization for the acts of a foreign government thousands of miles away is the textbook definition of antisemitism as outlined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Definition (IHRA) of Antisemitism. This benchmark definition of antisemitism is recognized by both the organized Jewish community and the United States Department of Education.
This is just one of multiple antisemitic posts made on Yik Yak
We will note that these messages were posted just a day after the passing of a boycott, divestment, and sanctions resolutions in the University of California - Santa Cruz Student Government. This administration had been warned of the rise of antisemitism that would occur if this passed and has yet to take meaningful action to support and protect the Jewish students of this campus.
To make meaningful change we ask that the administration of this campus:
Meet with the Jewish student leaders of Alpha Epsilon Pi, to hear the concerns of students on campus and create a plan to work together to ensure that the University of California - Santa Cruz can be a safe place for all religious minorities.
Engage with representatives of the AEPi Antisemitism Response Center (AEPi ARC) at [email protected] to speak further about resources you may need to bolster your efforts, train your staff, or better understand the position of Jewish students.
Adjudicate the Student Code of Conduct including the sections on harassment and the use of university network resources (Wi-fi) through the lens of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Definition (IHRA) of Antisemitism.
I earnestly request that you take this matter seriously to protect our campus and community. This type of bigotry and hatred has no place anywhere, let alone at the University of California - Santa Cruz.
