Dear Campus Leader at The University of South Florida,
I write as an alumnus of Alpha Epsilon Pi - the International Jewish Fraternity – at the University of South Florida. I am deeply concerned about the constant harassment and hate that Alpha Epsilon Pi has received both online and in person from members of this university community - below are just a few examples. Since October 7th we have seen an unprecedented rise in hate and antisemitism throughout the United States, this campus has been no different, and has even been described as “a safe haven for antisemitism”.
This administration must create a campus environment in which Jewish students can be proud and feel safe. In order to do so, we have a few simple asks of this administration that we hope you will strive to meet.
Facilitate a meeting between President Rhea Law and the Jewish student leaders of Alpha Epsilon Pi, to hear the concerns of students on campus and create a plan to work together to ensure that the University of South Florida can be a safe place for all religious minorities.
Engage with representatives of the AEPi Antisemitism Response Center (AEPi ARC) at [email protected] to speak further about resources that you may need to bolster your efforts, train your staff, or better understand the position of Jewish students.
Adjudicate the Student Code of Conduct including the sections on harassment as well as the use of university network resources (Wi-Fi) through the lens of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Definition (IHRA) of Antisemitism.
Treat antisemitism with the same gravity and seriousness as other hateful, targeted rhetoric in University actions and communications.
I earnestly request that you take this matter seriously in an effort to protect our campus and community. This type of bigotry and hatred has no place anywhere, let alone at the University of South Florida.
