Fill out the form to send a letter to University of Virginia Leadership to urge them to support Jewish students on campus
See letter below
Dear University of Virginia Campus Leader,
I am an alumnus of Alpha Epsilon Pi – the International Jewish Fraternity – at the University of Virginia. I am reaching out to you as a member of the Jewish community on this campus.
The flawed passing of Referendum 1, through the University Board of Elections, is a failure of this campus' administration to prevent hate from spreading in our community. The language of the referendum pushed beyond the boundaries of free speech and into pure unadulterated antisemitism, as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) This benchmark definition of antisemitism is recognized by both the organized Jewish community and the United States Department of Education. Furthermore, we are disappointed to see a lack of any meaningful action taken by this administration when procedural rules were violated time and time again, even when reported to university officials.
The University of Virginia administration has an obligation and mandate under Title VI to protect Jewish students from hate. This is an obligation that has not been met. To move forward from here we ask that the administration of this university take the following actions to help support our community.
The University President must make a statement of support for the Jewish community in their time of need.
Meet with the Jewish student leaders of Alpha Epsilon Pi, to hear the concerns of students on campus and create a plan to work together to ensure that the University of Virginia can be a safe place for all religious minorities.
Engage with representatives of the AEPi Antisemitism Response Center (AEPi ARC) at [email protected] to speak further about resources that you may need to bolster your efforts, train your staff, or better understand the position of Jewish students.
I earnestly request that you take this matter seriously in an effort to protect our campus and community. This type of bigotry and hatred has no place anywhere, let alone at the University of Virginia.
